Management consultant resume template: example & tips

Consulting firms receive huge numbers of applications and read them fast. They look for signals of analytical strength, client impact and academic excellence – ideally on a single page. The resume itself counts as a work sample: clearly structured, every bullet with a result, no filler.

Why this template

The standard consulting firms know: organization in bold, role in italics, results as bullets, all on one page. In consulting the one-page resume is the expectation – deviations get noticed, rarely in a good way.

Tips for your Management consultant resume

  1. One page. Firms expect it, and it is a test in itself: can you prioritize?
  2. Start each bullet with a strong verb and end it with a result – quantified where possible. Where numbers are confidential, use orders of magnitude.
  3. Anonymize clients: “Fortune 500 automotive manufacturer” instead of a name. It is standard and shows discretion.
  4. For entry-level applicants, grades, scholarships and awards belong prominently. With experience, they move down.
  5. An “Additional” section with languages, activities and one or two unusual interests gives material for the fit interview.

Salary

Pay depends on location, employer, experience and certification – a single number says little. For current figures by occupation, see the Occupational Outlook Handbook (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics).
